“40 years” – gosh, that was quick and where did the hair
go !

What did I do – well :- 1976 Anatomy Demonstrator (.....
with Paul Davison!) in Bristol. Then SHO surgical rotation
in Bristol followed by Surgical Registrar Cheltenham ‘'.
Career switch to General Practice – 8 years in Boston ,
Lincolnshire as a GP / Surgeon ,then “home” to
Newcastle as a GP in Shieldfield for 12 years .Then, I
became fed up with Tony Blair’s NHS  reforms , so made
the “big move” to Australia . I have been a GP here for
nearly 10 years and retire in September 2015. I have
managed to avoid all the NHS red tape – but it is all
coming to Oz soon – so retirement here I come!

Joan and I have enjoyed all the variety and contrasts our
careers have allowed, but we now enjoy Australia where
we live on a small “hobby” farm with beef cattle and
kangaroos for neighbours! We both paint – Joan enjoys
botanical and animal colour pencil drawing and I do
watercolour painting. We both swim regularly and I fly fish
whenever I can (.....Joan ties my flies to make sure I am
away to give her peace and tranquillity). We love the
lifestyle change in Oz .We travel a lot and enjoy the cinema
and frequently go to Melbourne for good food , Rock
concerts (yes – never grown up !) and a bit of culture . We
are so grateful for the education which has allowed us
pursue all this.

Joan and I would like to extend an invitation to come and
visit us – “if you are passing” ! My email address is
scalpelsilver@dcsi.net.au – do look in, you are most
welcome . We are looking forward to catching up with you
all in July. “
